"Uzbekcosmos" has published photos of illegal straw burning in the fields. This was reported by the Space Research and Technologies Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

It is noted that until July 2024, 1,960 cases related to the burning of straw stalks and their remains were detected in land areas covering 23,273 hectares of grain crops in the republic.

Most of the burned areas are located in the following regions: 9,638 hectares (439 cases) in Tashkent region, 5,007 hectares (562 cases) in Surkhandarya region, 1,711 hectares (191 cases) in Samarkand region, 29 hectares (112 cases) in Namangan region, 931 hectares (54 cases) in Jizzakh region, 65 hectares (11 cases) in Fergana region, and 3,868 hectares (319 cases) in Andijan region.

"Uzbekcosmos" noted that responsible persons who allowed the burning of straw stalks in grain fields will be fined three to five times the base calculation amount in accordance with Article 88, Part 3 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. Additionally, individuals will be fined five to ten times the base calculation amount, and damages caused to the land and flora will also be calculated and recovered accordingly.

For information, burning straw on 1 hectare of land releases 500 grams of nitrogen oxide, 379 grams of hydrocarbons, 3 kg of ash, and 20 kg of carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. This leads to serious health consequences such as tuberculosis and cancer, environmental pollution, and a decrease in soil fertility.
